The new restaurant will move into The Fountains at St. Johns shopping center, a new development that has slowly welcomed new businesses since last year. Now, the retail district will welcome a new concept from the owners of Rio Bonito Latino Food Market. There is no exact timeline for this opening, but the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation recently approved the company for new construction. The concept was originally announced last year as Rio Bonito Grill & Empanadas.

The new Brazilian restaurant will join several other businesses already in the area: The Dolly Llama Waffle Master, Dapper D’s Cigar Lounge, Green Papaya, Juice Tap, JaxSpice, and more. While the development is slowly filling out, more businesses are opening later this year, including Bur Trans Euro Deli and Bakery, Florida Eye Specialists, ENT Specialists of North Florida, and Jacksonville University’s location at The Fountains at St. Johns. The new campus is expected to open in Summer 2024 and will be used as an educational facility for Jacksonville University’s healthcare sciences programs.

“The Fountains at St. Johns is strategically located at one of the most sought-after sites in Northeast Florida,” David Ergisi, Cross Regions Group president and CEO, said in a news release last year. “Our team’s reputation for excellence and our development’s best-in-class design and construction has resulted in significant demand for The Fountains at St. Johns.”
