DeeDee and R.V. Cate opened Daddy Cate’s Coffees in historic downtown Brunswick in 2002 and kept operating through the pandemic. Then, last year, the beloved cafe was forced to close after a massive flood that led to extensive water damage. The owners have been working on reopening but recently shared some updates via social media. Daddy Cate’s Coffees is still in the middle of construction but is hoping to reopen sometime in March.

When the eatery reopens in early Spring 2024, customers can expect the same menu as before, featuring a variety of breakfast options, food off the grill, hot dogs, salads, and sandwiches. To drink, the cafe will have specialty coffees and gourmet teas, plus a handful of other cold drinks, such as smoothies and milkshakes. Daddy’s Cate’s Coffees will have a warm welcome from the neighborhood when it finally opens, considering it has been around for over two decades.

“We are frequently asked about why we named it Daddy Cate’s Coffees,” according to the company’s website. “For a long time, we couldn’t come up with a fitting name and tried out different possibilities, running each of them by family and friends. But nothing seemed right. At the time, our son Dylan was in 8th grade and had a friend over. We were all outside, and his friend hollered across the yard to R.V., “Hey, Daddy Cate!” I stopped in my tracks and said, “That’s it!”… and the name was born.”
