The new family-owned concept will move into the former home of Drake’s Deli, opening in February 2024, according to Florida Food and Beverage Weekly. Customers can expect a variety of premium soft-serve ice cream, sundaes, and milkshakes. Co-owners Kate and Michael Alfeiri have been working on this concept for about five years and are getting closer to finally opening in the new year. The long wait will pay off, considering how many positive factors Cookiebird Ice Cream Bar has going for it.
When the new ice cream and dessert shop opens early next year, it will sit on a busy street full of other retailers and eateries, which will help bring in more foot traffic to the business. On top of being surrounded by hotels and restaurants, Cookiebird Ice Cream Bar will sit across the street from The Old Senator Tree and down the street from the Old Jail Museum. The company will only face competition with The St. Augustine Scoop down the street. If that wasn’t enough, the building itself has plenty of history
“Fun fact! The Cookiebird Ice Cream Bar storefront is a legacy building located in the historic San Marco corridor,” according to the company’s Instagram. “It dates back to 1930 and has lots of history as a fro yo shop, pizza shop, Johnny’s Beef & Sausage and most recently Drake’s Deli. We’re so excited to restore this gem and bring premium soft-serve ice cream to our part of town!”
