The nearly 7,000-square-foot building will be the company’s third location in Northeast Florida, according to a Colliers site brochure first reported by Jacksonville Daily Record. OFFI Island Wing Tamaya LLC, led by John Weissfisch and Kurt Schickedanz, bought the site in November 2021 for $1.75 million. There’s no exact timeline for the new Island Wings Co., considering the company is waiting on the city as it reviews a permit application. The company’s third location will likely open sometime next year.
The Destin-based company was created by a pair of free-thinking restaurant entrepreneurs who love the island life, according to the company’s website. The husband and wife team had spent the prior 15 years building a successful 300-unit restaurant chain. Island Wing Co. opened its first Jacksonville area in the Tinseltown area of Deerwood North in early 2020 in the former home of TGI Friday’s, followed by a second location in Saint Johns that opened in June 2022. When the third Island Wings Co. opens, customers can expect various delicious foods, with a spotlight on the company’s famous wings, baked or grilled.
This isn’t the first food-related venture for Weissfisch, who likes to go by JD. Before this, he was a multi-unit franchise owner of Tropical Smoothie Cafe before opening his first Island Wing Co. in Orlando. Weissfisch is also the area developer/ owner of the Rock N Roll Sushi locations in Tampa and the owner of Takko Korean Taqueria. All three of his current restaurants—Island Wing Co., Rock N Roll Sushi, and Takko Korean Taqueria—operate under Bold Restaurant Brands, of which Weissfisch is a partner.
